Jack Daniel's has been producing its famous whiskey for more than a century
It is a genuine Tennessee whiskey - Jack Daniel's, often simply called "Jack", is world-famous. The history of this traditional company began in 1866 with the construction of the distillery by founder Jasper "Jack" Newton Daniel. As no one knows exactly when Jack was born, his birthday is celebrated every year throughout the month of September. There are many legends surrounding the inventor, including that he contracted blood poisoning when he forgot the combination to his safe and then kicked the steel box. The illness weakened him so much that he died at a young but unknown age. Before his death, Jack handed over his entire business to his nephew Lem Motlow. A short time later, the Jack Daniel's Whiskey production facility became the first distillery ever to be included in the official commercial register of the United States. Jack Daniel's is now part of the Brown-Forman Group.
True to the motto "We do it every day and we try to do our best", Jack Daniel's constantly strives for consistent quality. One of the most important ingredients used by Jack Daniel's is fresh spring water from the limestone spring close to the distillery. This was also the reason why founder Jack decided on the location of the distillery. The uniquely mild taste of the whiskey is created using an elaborate charcoal filtering process. Jack Daniel's owns the patent rights to protect the special technique, which was developed by the founder himself in the 19th century.
Today, the company is run by the seventh generation, but the production techniques have not changed. During the filtering process, the whiskey seeps for two weeks through a meter-thick layer of charcoal, which the company produces itself from sugar and maple. This technique removes all fats and foreign aromas from the spirit, refining the taste of the whiskey. The premium product also absorbs the charcoal flavor. Once this process is complete, the product is filled into white oak barrels in which the whiskey matures for at least four years. Only when all the components of the product are right can it be further processed and bottled.
